EXCLUSIVE: Indie poppers Trace Decay divulge their dream rider in honour of their brand new tune!
Like a fluffy white cloud on a warm summer's day, the brand new single Empty Handed from Melbourne duo Trace Decay will leave you anything but with its buttery instrumentation and laidback charm.
Teaming up with Edvard Harkansson (IV League, Jack Grace) on production and Malcolm Besley (Northeast Party House, Slowly Slowly, City Clam Down) on mastering duties, Empty Handed is a genial addition to the burgeoning Trace Decay journey, with the pair not just crafting glossy chill, but also injecting some significantly personal themes in a display of elegant vulnerability.
“I wrote ‘Empty Handed’ when I was going through a period of transition and was uncertain if I was on the right path to improving my own mental health or making it worse. I was holding myself to double standards and constantly second guessing everything. It got to the point where I almost felt paralysed when I had to make a choice about anything as the fear of getting it wrong would haunt me. The verses are about me struggling with being in that unshakable mindset, trying to find answers anywhere. The chorus of this song was the last thing that was written as I was so stuck with where it should go...The songs themes had reared their ugly head and started to manifest in the songwriting process. At which point I realised I should just write about acknowledging that this is a thing and not worry about trying to find this magical resolution which I so desired. Probably one of my favourite lines I’ve ever written is the last line in the chorus which encapsulates my experience of self-doubt and crippling anxiety perfectly.” - Jordan De Pas, vocals
With the promise of an upcoming music video to accompany their brand new track, there's no doubt plenty more Trace Decay bliss in the near future for you to sink your teeth and/or ears into. But today in celebration of their latest track, the band share their very own 'Dream Rider' for when they can finally hit the road again. Read on!
We have a great appreciation for the art of espresso and would love to enjoy a couple before our set.
A great way to exert a little bit of the extra energy hanging around and always important to get some shots up.
I can’t get enough of watermelon in any form. I’d even be cool with a non-alcohol watermelon margarita. A mocktail?
1 x PLAYSTATION 4 OR PLAYSTATION 5 DEPENDING ON WHAT YEAR THE GIG IS
Mostly so Jeri and I can battle it out on NBA2k. Winner has to pour the next round of margaritas and sing ‘Dance Hall Days’ by Wang Chung in reverse.
UNLIMITED SUPPLY OF CARAMILK BARS
Yep I said it. Can’t get enough of them and would happily eat a whole family block in one sitting. Probably not the best thing to eat preshow but even if they are just on the rider for aesthetics, I’d be cool with it.
