Generally revered for their dynamic tendencies, Brisbane octet The Holy Rollercoasters last dove into EP territory with 2019's Bathe doling out upbeat funk and swagger in torrid fashion. And while the group's upcoming EP Embrace still carries the group's trademark soul, it also offers a balanced insight into smoother sonic territory from this expressive and rhapsodic bunch.
Deftly covering life's complexities and quieter moments with smooth infusions and jazzy flair, Embrace's seemingly carefree sonic surface takes a poignant journey through themes of domestic bliss, abuse, self discovery and social anxiety; universal themes at the best of times, but ones that perhaps take on heavier reflection with the COVID-19 pandemic mayhem. But it ain't all doom and gloom, as once again The Holy Rollercoasters deftly layer their signature wit and dancefloor-ready delights across the space of seven songs.

With the majority of the EP's songs coming to life at vocalist Jimi Beavis's kitchen table with Andrew Garton noodling on guitar, the EP also marks the first proper recordings to be made at Garton's new home studio. And teaming up with the legends at 4000 Records, the EP will also be unveiled on cassette which not only will offer a nostalgic keepsake of this stirring release - it will also feature a B-side packed with stripped-back versions of the EP tracks not available anywhere else.
