INTERNATIONAL FEATURE ARTIST: Black Income (DENMARK)

For today's international feature, we're heading to Denmark, home of the Vikings and of thumping rockers Black Income (aka BLCK INCM). Inspired by the grunge and grit of the 90s and armed with some serious chops, this trio quickly found their feet in 2011 and have since unleashed their fuzzy metal-tinges with a string of EPs plus a full length 'Noise Pollution' recorded at the legendary Medley Studio in Copenhagen (a site that has also played home to recordings for Radiohead, D-A-D and Kent).

With a knack for catchy riffs and an ongoing love-affair with the melodic grit greats (Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana, Soundgarden and so on), Black Income are a welcome addition for anyone who likes their rock and riffs on the alternative side. And with the promise of new music to come for the Northern summer, the gents took some time to chat influences, favourite bands and their personal pick on what makes the perfect rock song.

  • BAND NAME: BLACK INCOME (BLCK INCM)

  • LOCATION: Fredericia, Denmark

  • BAND MEMBERS: Henrik Thrane: Vocals/Guitar Lars Olrik: Drums Michael Gersdorf: Bass/Backing Vocals

  • HOW DID BLACK INCOME START? We all come from a long line of other bands, we just wanted to create something different, so we got together and jammed for a couple of months to find each other musically.

  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AROUND FOR? We started out in 2011...

  • WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR INFLUENCES? We listen to a lot of bands, but bands like Queens of the Stone Age and their way of doing rhythms inspired us a lot. Also bands like Soundgarden, Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots we love a lot...not that we aim to sound like them, we just love the punchy edge and the vocal harmonies.

  • DESCRIBE YOUR BAND IN THREE WORDS: Tight. Alternative. Magnetic.

  • WHAT'S THE MOST MEMORABLE GIG YOU'VE PLAYED SO FAR AND WHY? Ohh...tough one...we've played so many, but playing in our hometown is always special.

  • WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SONG OF YOURS? Feels Like A Storm - it tells a story about a man not really being able to cope with reality. The music video for the track tells the story (check it out here and below), with the awesome Danish actor Jacob Nissen playing the part.

  • WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? ANY NEW THINGS ON THE HORIZON? At the moment we have a couple of gigs coming up here in Denmark, but our main focus is finishing up our next album, to be released this summer...

  • IF YOU WEREN'T PLAYING MUSIC, WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU BE DOING? Ha. Nothing. Drinking beers :)

  • IF BLACK INCOME WERE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND WITH ONE OTHER BAND, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY? Nirvana, of course. They seem to have had the most fun...not so dead looking...always keeping things alive. You don't want boring metal bands on a deserted island...hahaha

  • PINEAPPLE ON A PIZZA, YES OR NO? NO WAY

  • CATS OR DOGS? DOGS. They listen :)

  • WOULD BLACK INCOME SURVIVE A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE? 100% ure. We would grab their sorry zombie asses and rock the hell out of them :)

  • AND FINALLY, WHAT'S THE GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME AND WHY? Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden. It's the perfect rock song. Like putting melodic Beatles into a dark stoned riff like Black Sabbath...it's the greatest!
