INTERNATIONAL FEATURE ARTIST: Dark Rain (USA)

Dark Rain from Maine, USA are the result of a whirlwind of rock and metal coming together; a quintet of passionately pounding musos who cover everything in their repertoire from life, love, politics - and the occasional random, twisted thing.

Expanding their reach with their 2015 release 'The Long Road Home', Dark Rain have been grinding against the lack of local artist development while also busting out tunes that uniquely embodies the group's influences and inspirations with a nostalgic heavy twist. Having already cut their teeth on various battle of the bands and burgeoning into larger tours, Dark Rain are poised for a busy 2018. But in between crafting new music and building their own studio, The Soundcheck grabbed them to chat beginnings, favourite tunes and a whole lot more! Interview below.

  • BAND NAME: Dark Rain

  • LOCATION: Maine, USA

  • BAND MEMBERS: Dudley Leavitt - Vocals/Guitar Kelleigh Richards - Vocals Brian Rathbun - Guitar

  • Bill True - Bass Devin Mallard - Drums

  • HOW DID DARK RAIN START? We formed originally in 2000 but only stayed together a year and a half, after many years apart we came back together in 2011 and have been together since. Brian and Dudley were in a band called Strictly Business in which Kel auditioned for and got the gig, Bill and Devin are new arrivals to the band.

  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AROUND FOR? Since 2011.

  • WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR INFLUENCES? Guns N Roses, Ozzy, Pantera, Heart, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Halestorm

  • DESCRIBE DARK RAIN IN THREE WORDS: Bombastic insightful rock

  • WHAT'S THE MOST MEMORABLE GIG YOU'VE PLAYED SO FAR AND WHY? The Lewiston Colisee, basically our area's big civic center, it was the first time playing on the pro stage and with full arena sound.

  • WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE DARK RAIN SONG? Bill: 'Get Ready' cause its a rocking tune. Dudley: 'The Bleeding', it's very personal and gives hope in the face of desperation. Kelleigh: 'Nevermore' because its my life story.

'GET READY' (DARK RAIN)

  • WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? ANY NEW THINGS ON THE HORIZON? A new CD called 'The Illusion Fades', it should be out later in 2018, we are also building our own studio.

  • IF YOU WEREN'T PLAYING MUSIC, WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU BE DOING? Honestly watching other bands, we love to go out to shows and support other bands we've grown to know.

  • IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND WITH ONE OTHER BAND, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY? Fleetwood Mac, because I have no TV and I like watching drama.

  • PINEAPPLE ON A PIZZA, YES OR NO? As someone who makes pizza for a day job, I'd say no way.

  • CATS OR DOGS? Love both for different reasons , dogs because they're loyal and loving, cats because they are so funny when they are trying to act so aloof with their attention.

  • WOULD DARK RAIN SURVIVE A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE? We'd own the world in a zombie apocalypse, we're ambitious and hard working. Can't have zombies killing our fan base, so we'd have to be zombie hunting regularly.

  • AND FINALLY, WHAT'S THE GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME AND WHY? 'War Pigs' (Black Sabbath) - strong powerful guitar, dark imagery through the lyrics, intense bass and drums.
