INTERVIEW: Jarryd James

Life can sometimes be a funny old thing; one minute you're immersed in a day job as a social worker in Brisbane, and the next you're crafting musical molasses and taking the world by storm - or at least that was certainly the case for Aussie marvel Jarryd James when he burst onto the scene with his serpentine debut monster Do You Remember back in 2015. Weaving otherworldly tinges of pop, electronica and silken R&B, James and his gauzy vocals swiftly plonked him front and centre, snapping up ARIA Awards, touring the globe and, perhaps most impressive of all: finally finding himself in the position to make music full-time.

A Jarryd James tune may typically conjure images of broody glances through rain-soaked windows with lashings of swooning beats and buttery electronica. But beyond the hypnotic melancholia lies a haven of engaging warmth and curiosity, and it's these very facets that James embraces and transcends in his sophomore album P.M. which officially found its way into the world today. But last night on the eve of this stunning new release, Tiana Speter grabbed some time with the man himself to chat late nights, exotic locales and some unforgettable moments along the way.
