INTERVIEW: Lawrence Taylor (WHILE SHE SLEEPS)
Hailing from Sheffield in the UK, there's nothing sleepy whatsoever about metalcore chameleons While She Sleeps and their heaving brand of melodic brutality. Forming back in 2006 alongside the straospheric surge of bands in the metalcore realms, While She Sleeps have transcended their humble beginnings and exploded into infamy, cultivating a devoted fanbase, exploring their stylistic confines and finding their home alongside fellow luminaries they grew up idolising.
Fast-forward to 2021, and the world and indeed the music industry surrounding this UK quintet has irrevocably changed since the first ever While She Sleeps EP unleashed back in 2006; but it would take more than a pandemic or challenges facing artists in the digital era to topple this forward-thinking bunch, and their impending fifth studio album SLEEPS SOCIETY posits not just how far the band have come as musicians, but also their ability to evolve with the times. With a fan-orientated platform in action (also sharing its name with the upcoming album), While She Sleeps continue to be a band fully in-tune with themselves and their audience, cementing their own survival while also offering fans an open and authentic door into their creative world (and the chance to be featured on the latest album). And with a little over a month to go before SLEEPS SOCIETY finds its way into the world, Tiana Speter grabbed some time with Sleeps vocalist Lawrence 'Loz' Taylor to chat creation in a pandemic, shattering expectations and some fortuitous moments along the way. Audio interview below.
