INTERVIEW + NEW VIDEO: Don't Blame Me (ATTICUS CHIMPS)

Today we've got a double whammy - a brand new music video AND a quick little chat with Gold Coast three-piece Atticus Chimp, the sunshine state's best kept alt-rock secret. This brash and bold trio started life back in late 2015, but the following year was a rocky one plagued with recording issues and a lacklustre release for their first EP. Fast forward to 2017, however, and a chance gig in Brisbane led to an alliance with Crooked Teeth Records and the rest is now very recent history - armed with a brand new single 'Don't Blame Me', a cracking music video to boot and a heap of upcoming shows, you can safely bet on hearing and seeing a lot more from this enigmatic bunch in the near future.

'Don't Blame Me' finds the group at their heavy rock best, with a hefty serve of punk and grunge scratching the surface. The accompanying music clip switches between the band rocking out and seemingly a lo-fi homage to 2001's famous 'The Dawn of Man' scene and possibly also the printer scene from Office Space - the result is a cheeky reflection of the band's overriding messages of dissatisfaction with authority and alienation from society, but it also shows off the groups ultimate ability to inject a bit of humour into their heaviness.

They'll be tearing up some stages starting in October, but in the meantime check out a bit more about Atticus Chimp and their new track below:

  • BAND NAME: Atticus Chimps

  • HOMETOWN: Gold Coast, QLD

  • MEMBERS: Sam Bray - Guitar/Vocals Theo D'ambrosia - Bass Jordan Vendy - Drums

  • HOW DID YOU GUYS GET STARTED? Sam and Theo are cousins and played casually as a duo in their teenage years. They met Jordan after putting an ad online seeking a drummer.

  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING TOGETHER? Formed at the end of 2015, but only started playing gigs seriously at the beginning of 2017.

  • INFLUENCES? '90s and early '00s Alternative Rock bands, i.e Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana, Dandy Warhols, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins.

  • DESCRIBE YOUR BAND IN THREE WORDS: Passionate. Heavy. Groovy.

  • WHAT’S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE GIG? New Globe Theatre where we were spotted by an independent record label called Crooked Teeth.

  • FAVOURITE ATTICUS CHIMP SONG? 'Heartbreak Debris'. It's an insanely fast paced song with a belting chorus.

  • WHAT ARE YOU GUYS CURRENTLY WORKING ON? ANYTHING NEW ON THE HORIZON? We have so many songs ready to go that we couldn't fit them onto a set list or even an album.

  • IF YOU WEREN'T PLAYING MUSIC, WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU BE DOING? Listening to music.

  • IF ATTICUS CHIMP HAD TO BE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND WITH ONE OTHER ARTIST, WHO WOULD IT BE? Preferably one with females because then we'd have somewhat of a chance of procreation.

  • PINEAPPLE ON A PIZZA, YES OR NO? Not going to request it and not going to refuse eating it.

  • CATS OR DOGS? Cats because they're low maintenance and dogs because they actually enjoy your company

  • WOULD ATTICUS CHIMP SURVIVE A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE? If drum sticks and guitar picks make for good zombie deterrents, then yes.

  • AND FINALLY, WHAT'S THE GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME? 'Tribute' by Tenacious D, because they said it themselves - who are we to question them?
