After a cryptic little post on their insta last week, AFI fans were reeling over speculation singer Davey Havok had left the group. But all the AFI Christmases have come at once because not only is Havok still in play - there's brand new music, plus an impending EP titled The Missing Man due out in early December.

The new track 'Get Dark' as well as the EP came together after the band's unexpected continuation of 'The Blood Tour', with the group finding hasty inspiration to begin writing. And this inspiration surge has started to unveil with 'Get Dark' marking a cathartic outing both from a writing and production perspective, as AFI guitarist and producer/mixer of the EP Jade Puget explains: "I was aiming for something a little raw for ‘Get Dark.’ In fact, I used most of the vocal takes from the very first time Davey sang it, as well as some of my guitar parts from when we were writing it. The song is built on the sparseness and simplicity of the verse drum groove and guitar riff that opens up into this big anthemic chorus. For the EP, the same idea of a certain rawness was really important to the overall vibe. I feel like it’s easy to turn out a slick, polished set of songs, but to walk that fine line between studio creation and live sound can be difficult. It’s been an intense labor of love and we can’t wait for everyone to hear it."

For a group labouring in the industry since their 1995 debut release, there's no sign of creative fatigue or cursory apathy with this brand new material, and there's little doubt the upcoming release is going to be something pretty special from the AFI gents.

AFI's 'The Missing Man' EP will be released on Friday December 7th, and is available for pre-order now at all digital stores and online streaming platforms HERE.
