EXCLUSIVE: The dreamy Dom Youdan shares his Coolest Love Songs Playlist just for you!

London-born, Sydney-based muso Dom Youdan is the type of artist you can't help but become infatuated with; immersive arrangements and glassy vocals that pierce the edges of contemporary pop with smatterings of electronic and R&B tinges.

Returning to airwaves in 2019 with his latest release Is Your Lover Still Cool, there's no question this entrancing artist has found his stride, straddling personal and emotive narratives with warm and swirling production that will delight his pre-existing fans and entice a whole new wave of listeners.

Calling Australia home after falling for an Australian at his second ever show, Dom Youdan may not have that much literal use for songs about unrequited love these days, but he certainly knows how to capture the bittersweet reality that comes with experiencing and learning from those moments, as Youdan explains:

“I was an outrageous geek growing up, ‘Is Your Lover Still Cool’ speaks to that. Of not fitting in and feeling something for someone who doesn’t really see you. This song’s as much about gaining perspective as it is falling in love.”

With the official launch of his brand new track at Hibernian House in Sydney tomorrow, what better way to celebrate 'Is Your Lover Still Cool' than by delving into Dom's ultimate Love Song Playlist. Whether you're loved up, broken hearted or somewhere inbetween, Dom's 'Coolest Love Songs For Really Cool People' has got you covered - go check it out and chuck it a follow below!

DOM YOUDAN'S 'COOLEST LOVE SONGS FOR REALLY COOL PEOPLE' PLAYLIST

Into My Arms - Nick Cave It’s such an incredibly unique look at love, and the ways it ties different viewpoints together is extremely beautiful. Any song that begins with ‘I don’t believe in an interventionist god’ and ends up still being romantic is particularly impressive. Open - Rhye The lyrics communicate this real sense of helplessness, but it’s all wrapped up in an effortless style. The voice is velvet and the opening string section is one of the best things you’ll hear in many a tune. Better Now - Post Malone I like to think of a good break up song as the love song’s extension, so I’m claiming ‘Better Now’. It feels like it’s the first time Post is saying what he probably should have said all long. This is a much more provocative love song that’s full of reflection. It’s also catchy as hell. Best To You - Blood Orange The arrangement in ‘Best to You’ is staggering, bringing a beautiful, uplifting energy into such melancholy and sentimental lyrics. I love it so much. It’s one of my go to tunes whenever I need a cheeky pick-me-up. Feels like heartbreak in Japan. New York - St. Vincent

It’s hard to tell whether the song’s about falling in and out of love with someone, or falling in love with the city itself. Stripped back and gorgeous, New York really shows St. Vincent at her most emotive and compelling. She’s the best.

May I Have This Dance - Francis and the Lights

Phil Collins is back and his name is Francis. Stunning production, in particular the dancing percussion and synth swells. This song feels like a homage to both love and the love songs that have come before it. I’ve opted for the non Chance the Rapper version just so I can say I was there at the start.

Take Care - Drake and Rihanna

I mean it’s built from a Jamie XX sample, so you know you’ve got cool ticked off right from the start. Sure this song became a pop behemoth but there’s a reason, it’s the romantic we all wish we could be.

Chateau Lobby #4 (in C for two virgins) - Father John Misty

The ultimate wedding song for all indie aficionados. ‘Lift up your wedding dress someone was probably murdered in,’ is a contender for best lyric...ever.

Young Love - Mystery Jets/Laura Marling

Looking back, I think this song still connects with me because of the way it makes this incredibly complex emotion so simple - all to the coolest groove. It really captured the trajectory of both artists. I wonder how they’d sing about love now.

Love For That - Mura Masa, Shura

As vibe and melodies go, it really doesn’t get much better than this for me. Shura’s voice is delicate and personal, dancing over some of the most elegant drops you’ll hear. The lyrics show love to be this confusing thing, and I couldn’t say it better myself.
