EP REVIEW: Everybody's Talkin (THE DIVES)

EP: Everybody's Talkin' ARTIST: The Dives If you like your pop with a little bit of weight then you may just want to get your ears around pop rockers The Dives. Based in New York, this quartet just recently shot out of the blue and landed in a rock and roll dream of tight harmonies, modern twists and some seriously toe-tappin' beats. And while these four lads are brand new on the scene, they've wasted no time jumping on a UK tour, and last month they dropped their debut EP 'Everybody's Talkin'. 'Everybody's Talkin' may be small in size (4 tracks in total), but it's an insanely likable blend of classic chord progressions, kickin' beats and vocal vibratos that will take you back to the golden days of rock. Standout track 'Make It Like the Movies' is so infectiously fun that even the staunchest power pop-haters would find it hard not to bop along.

It's impossible not to acknowledge the expectation that comes with the band's particular backstory: guitarist/singer Evan Stanley is the son of rock royal Paul Stanley (frontman for KISS), but there is no coat-tail riding with this band. Combined with Mike Lefton (guitar/vocals), Sergio Ortega (bass/vocals) and Jimmy Meier (drums/vocals), this is a band forming their own musical path, with Evan Stanley publicly promising "You won’t hear anything that sounds like KISS at The Dives’ show.”

Already dubbed the new kings of power pop, this is going to be an interesting ride to watch. The album's out now via iTunes and Spotify, more info below:
