EP REVIEW: Words To Live By (ECHO DEL TUSKER)

EP: Words To Live By // ARTIST: Echo Del Tusker

Drizzle some soul into your rock and roll with the brand new EP from Melbourne trio Echo Del Tusker.

While their debut EP 'Words To Live By' only unleashed last week, the sum of the Echo Del Tusker parts weren't born yesterday - comprising three "rock 'n' roll lifers", with Estelle Artois (lead vocals and guitar, ex-Tequila Mockingbyrd), Brendan

Forward (guitar - ex-Massive) and Mick Quee (bass - ex-Dead City Ruins), the inevitability of the Echo Del Tusker sound is not entirely unexpected. Drawing on experience and a brew of rock, blues, garage and R&B, there's an effortless stroke of soul bubbling away behind the riffs and energetic vocals - and 'Words To Live By'ultimately lives by these fundamentals.

'Can't Keep Your Man' comes in swinging first up, at times quite literally swinging with a sudden lilting groove lurching in below frontwoman Estelle Artois and her war cry vocals. Up next the jangly 'Fix Your Face' ups the strums and bass before the more mellow 'Endless' creeps into more soulful spaces.

YOU CAN'T KEEP YOUR MAN (ECHO DEL TUSKER)

The latter half of the EP gets moody with broody rocker 'Colour of Love', blazing up the riffage and delivering an uncomplicated rock and roll classic that showcases why the group keep snagging the attention of the rock communities both at home and abroad. 'World Is Yours' delivers cleaner tones and crunching harmonies that occasionally dip into the country realm before the grand finale: two acoustic tracks 'Endless' and 'Fix Your Face' that sets Artois against an acoustic guitar for some driving and dynamic renditions.

Despite technically being a "new" band on the scene, there's already so much to grasp onto with Echo Del Tusker; from playing dates with Rose Tattoo, featuring on Triple M's Home Grown and gaining radio play in the US and the UK, this debut release firmly plants this Melbourne trio as a driving force in the Aussie rock world.

'WORDS TO LIVE BY' IS OUT IN THE WORLD NOW, AND YOU CAN CATCH THE BAND ON THE ROAD IN NSW NEXT WEEK!
