SINGLE REVIEW: Diamond In The Sky (THE VELVET ADDICTION)

SINGLE: Diamond In The Sky ARTIST: The Velvet Addiction

If nostalgic rock with a modern twist and swooning tones are up your alley - firstly we should hang out more, and secondly get ready to fall in love with brand new music from rising Melbourne rockers The Velvet Addiction.

After busting out a delightfully sleazy riff-fest last year with their debut EP 'Volume 1', the boys are back with 'Diamond In The Sky', the first hint of new music from their upcoming EP (appropriately named 'Volume 2'). After heading back into the studio just before Christmas last year with buddies George Carpenter and Ian Peres (aka Wolfmother bass-man), The Velvet Addiction lads have definitely upped the stakes at every turn with this new material; snazzy songwriting, production and musical chops are all prominently on display in this buzzingly humble little track, and it's nice to hear a progression from their earlier work without sacrificing their rock and roll pizzazz.

"Diamond In The Sky was an idea that we had worked on over a six month period, playing it in various formations at shows. We took it into the studio and really went to town on it," said guitarist, Aaron Bach. "The minute that guitar locked in against the off-beat drums, it immediately became a groove. Our bassist, Lukas brought in the awesome bridge section with great psychedelic vibes."

There's going to be plenty more to look forward to from this engaging quartet, so watch this space. But in the meantime, check out 'Diamond In The Sky' plus a whole lot more below:
