SINGLE: One Life (ft. Aerborn) ARTIST: SHVRDZ The word "banger" gets thrown around a hell of a lot, but the latest track from Brisbane producer SHVRDZ (pronounced 'shards', aka Michael Holmes) is a full-blown beat-fest pumped full of glittering synths, infectious hooks and dreamy vocals from fellow Brisbanite Aerborn.
Kicking off with some sensual synthy delights, 'One Life' evolves into a trap-induced thumper that balances its shattering drops with a sulking soundscape brooding beneath Aerborn's heady, soothing tones. It's not hard to spy SHVRDZ's influences here with his air-horns, handclaps and winding sub-bass, having found inspiration at the age of 13 from Skrillex's second EP - but the end result here is an inherent ability to craft a club-filler with a soul, with textural wizardry taking the spotlight just as much as the underlying message of the dangers of unrealistic body images/life expectations.
'One Life' came to life across two days, with SHVRDZ recording, mixing and mastering the track in a temporary bedroom studio using just a microphone and his laptop, and it's yet another example of this emerging producer's head-turning skills. Expect a few more killer remixes from SHVRDZ over the next few months, and a second studio EP fixed firmly on the horizon, but in the meantime check out 'One Life' below:
