SINGLE REVIEW: Drawn Together (COG)

SINGLE: Drawn Together // ARTIST: Cog

Alt-rock gets a punchy makeover from Aussie legends Cog and their brand new track coinciding with their huge national tour currently underway.

Announced in sync with the synonymously named tour, 'Drawn Together' quite literally draws together snippets of the old-school and contemporary Cog identity, resulting in a track that is equal parts newfangled and nostalgic.

Bearing the expected grunt with the fierce and familiar vocals of Flynn Gower, there's a heap to devour as the track unfolds, with perky percussion, some 80s tones and moments of polyrhythmic acoustic bliss soaring the track out of the underground so readily set aside for anything partially "prog" - this is a stadium-worthy bop that manages to balance substance and style with a good old fashioned touch of grizzled assertiveness.

Lyrically drawing on "the intrinsic value in social connection to break through modern misdirection and offer solidarity", 'Drawn Together' is a tantalising peek into the prospective future for everyone's favourite mechanically-titled trio - and fans in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne can catch the new tune live in action from tomorrow as Cog continue their massive 'Drawn Together' Tour.
