NEW SINGLE REVIEW: Plastic Skin (MR ROGERS)
SINGLE: Plastic Skin // ARTIST: Mr Rogers
Self-described as a Scooby Doo nightmare, the brand new track Plastic Skin from Brissie alt-rockers Mr Rogers is a dark and drawling journey bursting with some chunky industrial glam that squarely calls out the blind consumption of mainstream media.
Combining the snarling spirit of Marilyn Manson with the disaffection of Nine Inch Nails, Mr Rogers are a group fed up with the status quo and armed with more fuzz than an aging Muppet. But while the trio's previous releases leaned closer to a tongue-in-cheek attack, the disarmingly upbeat Plastic Skin brings spooky tones and sharp lyrics that sees frontman Brad White unleash some searing distaste aimed at the dichotomy of mainstream news outlets and their morals, while also targeting the religious ideals behind them.
A band truly not for the fainthearted, there's no beating around the bush for Mr Rogers and their latest track. But while the subject matter may be sombre, there's just something about the combo of sparse instrumentation, murky vocals and reckless abandon that sits this trio outside of existing just as generic sonic shit-stirrers, fashioning them instead as a decisive and divisive experience that will grow on you with each listen.
