SINGLE REVIEW: Show Me What You Got (PAULY P)

SINGLE: Show Me What You Got ARTIST: Pauly P Funk's not dead, and one man who's certainly keeping the grooves alive is Bryon Bay loop master general Pauly P with his new single 'Show Me What You Got' (and no, it’s not a Get Schwifty homage, fellow Rick and Morty aficionados).

Equal parts roots, rock and reggae, with a bluesy soul, Pauly P (also of Wandering Eyes fame) brings lashings of sultry grooves, smokin’ vocals and twirling textures, made all the more enjoyable by the fact that this lush sound is totally a one-man-band affair.

On the surface ‘Show Me What You Got’ is a charismatic ball of funky fun, but there’s also a decent amount of social consciousness lurking behind the irresistible beats. But the overall effect is earnest without preaching, and while technically a one man band, this is no one trick pony – Pauly’s not only a bonafide funk machine, he’s also weaved his eclectic swagger across a variety of genres, including covers of NZ dubsters Fat Freddys Drop, Jimi Hendrix, and even Nine Inch Nails.

Keep an eye out for (hopefully) a lot more from this loop wizard – but in the meantime, ‘Show Me What You Got’ is out now in all the right places.
