A ravishing conjuration of Karnivool's grooves and throwback alt rock, Brisbane trio Patient Lounge continually thrill with their firm stamp on the progressive realms. Brandishing a honed blend of classic rock, prog, metal, jazz and modern pop, what could (in reality) spell a recipe for disjointed disaster for some bands instead evokes a world of sharp cohesion in the hands of this sonically diverse group. And while it's still relatively early days for this lot, with their debut still ringing fresh from 2019, it's on their latest track BEDGA that Patient Lounge come out swinging for a new year with a mix of elegance, buoyancy and sharpened, swaggering grunt.
Elegantly thrusting together measured grooves and rollicking riffs, BEGDA brings Patient Lounge barreling firmly back to their progressive rock roots, with potent odd time signature wizardry and explosive solos gleefully peppering proceedings. But as with many a Patient Lounge song, it's not just ear candy on the menu, as the brawny vocals of frontman Zach Eather ignite seamlessly over the taut instrumentation below, traversing themes of self-doubt and confronting your demons amid the juicy riffs and rhythmics.

Engineered by Bernie Wedrat at Lush Recording Studios (The 1975, The Butterfly Effect, Katy Perry) and mastered by Ted Jensen (Billy Joel, Green Day Mastadon), BEGDA not only sets the scene for an explosive year to come for Patient Lounge; it also impeccably presents a raw and intimate portrait of a band well-versed in innovation and technical dexterity, unafraid to augment expectations. And as if the new tune wasn't news enough, the band are also simultaneously gifting an accompanying music video for BEGDA, shining the spotlight on the band's live prowess with a studio playthrough of this challenging 9-minute track.
