SINGLE REVIEW: Victoria (CIARAN GRIBBIN)

SINGLE Victoria // ARTIST Ciaran Gribbin

From fronting INXS to crafting affable rock ballads, Ciaran Gribbin ups the charm on his latest single Victoria with a lush and lilting ode to searing moments in time.

Already renowned for his significant musical pedigree as a Grammy-nominated artist, Ciaran Gribbin's bio reads like a sweltering fever dream; from working alongside Madonna, U2, Paul McCartney to touring the world as a frontman for INXS, Irish-born, Sydney-based Gribbin has also continually found himself in hot demand as a producer and songwriter amongst his glittering career. And while a large portion of Gribbin's backstory may be closely associated to other artists, it's on his own solo adventures that Gribbin reveals his polish and poise; a fact even further driven home on his sparkling new tune Victoria.

Bubbling with balmy instrumentation, jangly percussion and tranquil guitars, Victoria drapes Gribbin's Irish-soaked pipes over some cheery Aussie flair and heartfelt narratives that converge into the sonic equivalent of a big warm hug with a side of brassy delights. Acting as the follow-up to the previous single Let's Change The World, Victoria brings together some of the country's finest musos and recording in Gribbin's honarary hometown, including Declan Kelly (Bernard Fanning) on drums, Rowan Lane (Rodriguez) on bass and Paul Beard, aka musical director for Robbie Williams, James Blunt, Art Garfunkel and Bryan Ferry.

"We wanted to capture the recording of the song as a live band in a studio, so we did the recording at The Nest, Declan’s studio in Surry Hills, Sydney...I loved singing with the band, and for me, the highlight was watching Dan Fallon play sax on the song.  It was an extraordinary recording session” - Ciaran Gribbin

Fittingly written with the man behind the sax on the track (Dan Fallon), Victoria may detail looking back at a moment in time when you meet someone extraordinary and wondering what might have been; but this track also serenely offers a glimpse into the absorbing future no doubt to come for Ciaran Gribbin and his continued musical journey.
