Bringing industrial chic and flying their inner-freak, Brissie dark rockers Darkcell have continuously etched out their own unique style over the years, along with a legion of loyal followers. And now reigning supreme after the recent release of their brand new track ‘Reign Of The Monsters’, Darkcell have monstrous plans for 2019 – but before their next adventures we grabbed frontman Jesse Dracman to chat sound, songs and…unicorns?! Interview below.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SOUND IN THE WHOLE WORLD?
Good question. It varies. I value the sound of calm and serenity. And what is that sound? You’ll know it when you feel it. In a day where we are surrounded by noise in every aspect consuming our very fibre of being and self, sometimes a little peace and quiet is a simple luxury that has greater benefits for all......
But then, I love the sound of a great song that captures your soul and takes you on a ride to great heights and lifts your spirit so high you feel mighty damn fine about life......the sound of laughter never tires....but in recent times, the sound of a crowd passionately screaming back your lyrics is poetic.
WHAT'S THE FIRST ALBUM/SINGLE YOU EVER BOUGHT YOURSELF?
Hmmm......I’m actually pretty sure it was NIN- The Downward Spiral. Never looked back since.
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE RELEASE SO FAR FOR 2019? (OR IF IT'S TOO EARLY TO CALL IT, WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE RELEASE OF 2018?)
Oooooh, tough call, but this year so far the new ep from Cane Hill- Kill the Sun. They are a rad band from the US that bring the nu-Metal vibes so well, but then released this ep of acoustic greatness. Bold move and very inspiring.
WHAT'S YOUR DREAM GEAR SET-UP? ARE YOU LUSTING AFTER ANY PARTICULAR INSTRUMENTS/EQUIPMENT?
Lots of lights and pyro! Dancing midgets and unicorns running wild!
WHO'S YOUR FAVOURITE AUSSIE BAND OR ARTIST RIGHT NOW AND WHY?
Can I bias and say Darkcell? Too bad if not haha! Our resilience and drive knows no boundaries and I love it. This is my Dream band and I love that we’re not one of the trendy bands or follow the same path. We blaze our own path and march to the sound of our own beat.
But if I could, I’d love to give props to my boy Bones Rivers. If you haven’t heard him, DO IT! DO IT NOW! Blues fusion like nothing else out there and his pop vibes are killer. Just such a unique talent that the universe needs to know about right now!
WHAT'S ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WISH YOU WERE GIVEN WHEN YOU WERE FIRST STARTING OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?
None. The lessons we learn, the journey we take should never be filled with wishful thoughts. We just set goals and kick the absolute hell out of them.
