Another Saturday, another Sound Off with a cracking Aussie band!
Stealing hearts and airwaves with charming, rootsy rock, Bribie Island newcomers Erin May have swiftly carved out a niche with passionate storytelling and smooth grooves that have found fans in their own local scene and beyond.
Already armed with triple j airplay, a bunch of songs out in the world and a healthy dose of quirk, Erin May are more than equipped to continue their trajectory into 2019 - but for now, we grabbed frontman Kirk Jeffs to chat sounds, songs and a secret or two. Interview below.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SOUND IN THE WHOLE WORLD?
The call of the Australian Whip Bird (Psophodes Olivaceus). This call is known as the whip-crack and reminds me of being in the Australian forest.
WHAT'S THE FIRST ALBUM/SINGLE YOU EVER BOUGHT YOURSELF?
Oasis: (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE RELEASE SO FAR FOR 2019? (OR IF IT'S TOO EARLY TO CALL IT, WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE RELEASE OF 2018?)
Paul Kelly: Nature
WHAT'S YOUR DREAM GEAR SET-UP? ARE YOU LUSTING AFTER ANY PARTICULAR INSTRUMENTS/EQUIPMENT?
I wouldn't mind having a 1960's Gibson Hummingbird (Guitar)
WHO'S YOUR FAVOURITE AUSSIE BAND OR ARTIST RIGHT NOW AND WHY?
I'm going to say Ballpark Music! ...because they're such geeks and they have been releasing stylish, original, & honest music for nearly 10 years now.
WHAT'S ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WISH YOU WERE GIVEN WHEN YOU WERE FIRST STARTING OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?
Don't release music in December.
WHAT'S ONE SECRET ABOUT ERIN MAY THAT YOU'RE WILLING TO DIVULGE?
Ok here goes ...When I was little I had long blonde curly hair & my 5 older sisters use to put dresses and make up on me. Unfortunately they have photographic evidence.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR ERIN MAY?
As well as playing plenty of gigs, we're going to spend some more time in the studio and work on our first album which we hope to release in April/May
