SOUND OFF SATURDAY: Kezra
Hypnotic vocals, glimmering beats and more chill than a snowman on steroids, Melbourne indie songstress Kezra exploded into 2018 with her divine singles 'Better Place' and more recently 'Missing You'.
Attracting ears all over the world in a short space of time, Kezra's earnest songwriting and polished production effortlessly oozes electronic, folk and pop tendencies that not only tug at the heartstrings - they downright melt your soul while still holding focus with pulsating textures and breathy crescendos.
With 2018 marking her selling out her single launch, supporting fellow Melburnian G Flip in their hometown and more, Kezra's certianly poised for a huge year ahead. But before the next phase begins, the lady herself took The Soundcheck's Sound Off challenge, chatting all things songs, secrets and (of course) sound.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SOUND IN THE WHOLE WORLD?
The sound of the ocean - waves moving back & forth, the breeze in the air. ahhh soo heavenly.
WHAT'S THE FIRST ALBUM/SINGLE YOU EVER BOUGHT YOURSELF?
I feel like surely it would have been either Delta Goodrem - Born To Try/ Black Eyed Peas - Monkey Business / Missy Higgins - Sound of White. I definitely had all of them, I remember saving all my pocket money up to buy my favourite album in primary school. A very eclectic mix of music but I guess that’s why I like to write different genres of music now as a songwriter.
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE RELEASE OF 2018 SO FAR?
Rainbow Valley - Matt Corby. I’ve always been a huge fan of Matt Corby, but this album is soo different to his old stuff (In a good way). Funky bass riffs, beautiful piano playing accompanied by his soothing vocals with uplifting harmonies - the perfect road tripping album. My fav song from the album is ‘Miracle Love’ - hits all the right spots.
WHAT'S YOUR DREAM GEAR SET-UP? ARE YOU LUSTING AFTER ANY PARTICULAR INSTRUMENTS/EQUIPMENT?
The ultimate set up for me would be a decent home vocal recording set up, would LOVE to have a Grand Piano, a Roland SPD-SX to play around with more beats/sampling and lastly a Vintage Gibson Acoustic. A girl can dream…
WHO'S YOUR FAVOURITE AUSSIE BAND RIGHT NOW AND WHY?
Gang of Youths - I bought my dad tickets as a present last year not really knowing too much about the band but thought they would be cool to see. And they literally blew my mind, 2 hour straight set with no break and their performance was just amazing. David Le’aupepe was incredible, fully engaging the audience all night with his voice, stories and smooth jagger like dance moves. After that night I was in love and they easily became my favourite band.
WHAT'S ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WISH YOU WERE GIVEN WHEN YOU WERE FIRST STARTING OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?
That success is not getting your song on mainstream radio or making it on a TV show like The Voice - it’s the beauty of having people come and support you at you original music shows and connecting with your own music, which I think is amazing.
WHAT'S ONE SECRET ABOUT YOURSELF THAT YOU'RE WILLING TO DIVULGE?
I secretly love Johnny Cash.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR KEZRA?
An EP or Album is next on the horizon for KEZRA, not sure of a release date yet but I don’t want to rush the process and want to make sure I’m 110% happy before I release it. I will also be heading to States in April so will be doing some recordings/collaborations.
