TOUR ROUND UP: Void Of Vision, L7, Sunk Loto & More!

WELCOME TO THE SOUNDCHECK'S TOUR ROUND UP - The Soundcheck's routine round up of some insanely awesome upcoming tours from locals and overseas acts that you definitely need to be adding to your future gig calendar. While this certainly isn't a definitive list of what's coming up, it's definitely enough to get you frothing for some live music shenanigans, from some overseas faves returning at long last to our shores, to some epic locals back for more in 2023. So without further adieu, here's 8 x tours The Soundcheck is currently pumped for! Who's on your live lust list??

VOID OF VISION

w/ Like Moths To Flames, Varials & Annalynn

The cat's well and truly out of the bag: heavy juggernauts Void Of Vision are no longer Australia's best-kept secret. Emerging onto the metal scene over 10 years ago, Void Of Vision have steadily wowed via their razor sharp aesthetics, scintillating sonic output and explosive live shows.

This August, Void Of Vision will be touring their entire CHRONICLES trilogy, three separate yet interwoven snapshots of Void Of Vision's eclectic and searing musical soul, comprising of three EPs LUST, HEAVEN and UNDERWORLD that point to the band's past, present and dazzling future.

With special guests Like Moths To Flames (US), Varials (US) and Annalynn (Thailand) joining for the Das Ende Australian tour, it's safe to say these shows are set to be something insanely special. And if you were fortunate enough to catch VOV at the first ever Aussie edition of Knotfest last month, you'll know the gents are in fine form - this is not one to miss in 2023!

SUNK LOTO

Imagine two years ago if you told yourself not only that Aussie metalcore pioneers Sunk Loto would be reforming, but that they'd be touring in 2023 playing their game-changing album Between Birth and Death in full to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Well, quit pinching yourself and get keen because one of Australia's most iconic heavy bands are back in full swing, following their sold out reunion run in 2022 - and the promise of new music on the horizon too.

These upcoming shows in October and November will visit Fremantle, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, with super fans able to secure VIP packages that include a meet and greet, band photo and more. But even if you're not snapping up the VIP treatment, this tour will offer a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear one of the most important heavy Australian albums of all time from start to finish. And as anyone who spied the quartet live in action last year will attest to, the time away from the stages has only made Sunk Loto more ferocious and engaging than ever in a live setting.

L7

One of the OG rock greats of our time, L7 continue to be a force to be reckoned with since erupting onto the scene many decades ago. A thunderous quartet of lovable hellraisers, L7 survived and thrived well beyond the rise and fall of the 90s grunge, punk and alternative wave, even despite a gap from the early to mid 2000s.

In 1992, L7 may have raised eyebrows for some notable antics at Reading Festival, but it also marked the year that the band unleashed their third studio album Bricks Are Heavy. And it's this very album that L7 will be bringing down under this December, set to perform the prolific album and more surprises around the country, with VIP meet and greet packages also on offer.

Proof that rock'n'roll will never die, bricks are heavy and so are L7 - and, as Billboard so eloquently put it, they're a band “as vital, vicious and pissed off as ever”. Prepare to witness the original lineup doing what they do best once again.

EXTREME & LIVING COLOUR

For the first time ever, Boston rockers Extreme and New York funk rock sensations Living Colour will head down under together for some electrifying evenings this September.

Whether you know and love them for their genuinely iconic single More Than Words or you're down for their more raucous moments, Extreme are a tantalising mixture of barn-burning hard rock and introspection that has seen them snag a Grammy nomination alongside five full length albums - and a brand new album Six due out this June.

A fixture on the musical landscape since forming in the 80s, Living Colour are quite simply living legends, stylistically diverse and driven by boundless innovation with Grammy wins, international acclaim and a driving social conscience firmly in their wake. Still as potent as ever and no strangers to Australia, Living Colour should always be a must-see when they come to town. And to pump you up before the tour, come revisit the time frontman Cory Glover joined The Soundcheck's Tiana Speter before they toured Australia back in 2018 here.

YOU ME AT SIX

w/ special guests Set It Off

Performing their first Aussie headline shows in half a decade, UK rock sensations You Me At Six will be headed down under this July, with special guests Set It Off bringing the pop-meets-electronic-and-rock goodness.

In command of over half a billion streams across digital platforms, You Me At Six will also be armed with their brand new album #8, the melodic and modern masterpiece that is Truth Decay.

With recent performances across Europe with The Hunna and Aussie's very own Yours Truly, You Me At Six are set to carry that explosive energy onto Australian stages in July - get set for a night of pure music rapture.

ASTRODEATH

"How can a two piece make such an unholy amount of kickass noise" - a legitimate quote from myself muttered while my jaw dropped during a recent live performance by one of the best Aussie heavy acts in the country right now: Astrodeath.

Embarking on an extensive headline tour this June to launch their impending new album Vol. II which is due out next month, Astrodeath are primed to bring their otherworldly and stupendously ferocious live show to a town near you; and you do not wanna miss this!

Prepare for dank grooves, thunderous soundscapes, hypnotic beauty and more, and if you're a heavy music fan and you aren't already familiar with Astrodeath: do yourself a favour and get on board immediately.

FRENZAL RHOMB

w/ special guests The Meanies

Aussie staples Frenzal Rhomb continue to delight in 2023; whether they're making devastatingly witty comments on social media or casually unleashing what Wall Of Sound has dubbed "the best album of 2023" via their tenth full length The Cup of Pestilence, Frenzal Rhomb have proven time and time again that amongst their rapscallion antics lies a band who continually get better (and funnier) with age.

Set to tour the country this June and July with special guests The Meanies, and singles including their latest release Thought It Was Yoga But It Was Ketamine up their sleeves, set your wallet chains to stun later this year and get set to fall in love with Frenzal Rhomb all over again.

And, as the band aptly declare in their recent press material: "it's time for battle!"*

*playing a reasonable number of shows spread out over a bunch of weekends with a kinda big but not too-long setlist because we’ve been doing this for a while and our bones hurt. Please come.

PRIVATE FUNCTION

w/ special guests Smooch

What do Government-waived scratchies and urine-filled vinyl have in common? Obviously given the context of this text in this article it's related to beloved pub-rock reprobates Private Function, and more specifically the fun and mayhem surrounding the release of their third full length album 370HSSV 0773H.

An explosive collision of garage-punk, retro rock'n'roll, thrash and beyond, 370HSSV 0773H is a gory and glorious snapshot of the group's dynamic trajectory as they continue to grow their acclaimed status as one of the most enigmatic and unpredictable bands in the modern scene.

This May, come witness the thrilling insanity live in action, with Private Function locked in for a bunch of headline shows for their Hello A$$hole National Tour, with Melbourne glam-rockers Smooch and a bunch of awesome locals also along for the ride. Notorious for their pyro and wildly entertaining onstage antics, definitely expect the unexpected and then some next month.
