VIDEO PREMIERE: Displacer (MOFOISDEAD)

IT MAY HAVE BEEN FIVE YEARS SINCE BRISSIE METAL SCAMPS MOFOISDEAD GIFTED US WITH SOME NEW TUNES, BUT ABSENCE HAS MADE THE HEART GROW FONDER AND THE RIFFS GROW STRONGER WITH THE BRAND NEW TUNE DISPLACER BUSTING A DANK MOVE INTO 2020 - AND AS A SPECIAL TREAT, TODAY THE GENTS' BRAND NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR DISPLACER IS PREMIERING RIGHT NOW ON THE SOUNDCHECK!

The last time the world copped a gander at the might that is MofoIsDead was back in the simpler time of 2015 when Max Max Fury Road introduced us to a double-necked wielding, flame-happy guitarist, people were arguing about a dress that may or may not have been white and gold - and MofoIsDead dropped their impressively dark EP Brisneyland. Already revered for their gargantuan rock tones, penchant for goats and their Muse-meets-Guns-N-Roses flair, MofoIsDead have since spent the better past of the last twelve months writing new tunes, and their brand new baby Displacer firmly showcases some sharpened sonic claws from this beguiling bunch.

Kicking off with thunderous drums and polyrhythms that'll curl your hair, beard and/or nearby phone cable, Displacer slinks and swoons its way into a seething ball of oscillating grunge and metal as the potent combination of Paul Galagher on vocals and guitar, Luke Pammenton on drums and Scotty Saunders on bass weaves a hypnotic wonderland laced with relished menace.

Equally dabbling in nostalgic nu metal waters and more modern moments, Displacer may find itself perfectly placed with its angst and narrative frustrations given the current calamity gripping the world around us. But much like everyone's favourite accidental fortune telling machine The Simpsons, MofoIsDead wrote their brand new opaque opus before COVID-19 had entered public consciousness:

"Believe it or not these lyrics were written well before the great TP hoarding debacle of 2020 transpired, apt as they may be. Pretty self explanatory...just a spiritually alienated insomniac trapped in a misfit flesh capsule.  We’ve been working on a lot of tunes over the past year or so, this one just felt like a good segue from the Brisneyland EP into the rather eclectic mix of what will come next. The only artistic rule we have is there are no rules. We do what we want, and just hope other people dig it as much as we do" - Paul Galagher, vocals & guitar

And while the juggernaut vocals and thumping rhythmics of Displacer are standalone treats for new and old fans alike, MofoIsDead have also doubled down and gifted an accompanying music video, with the trio filming in the now empty Metro Arts building in Brisbane's CBD before social distancing became a new reality for us all - and with a very loose plan:

"I didn’t even brief lens lord Jason Millhouse, I just told him some vague ideas when he arrived and he made it look even better than I imagined" - Paul Galagher

For those who love their rock with a slice of quirk or just need a shake up to the same old musical tropes, MofoIsDead will ultimately float your boat and your goat and Displacer is just the start of this lot displacing the status quo in 2020.

DISPLACER WILL OFFICIALLY UNVEIL THIS FRIDAY 10TH APRIL, BUT YOU CAN COP A SNEAK PEEK AT THE BRAND NEW MUSIC VIDEO BELOW. FOR MORE MOFOISDEAD INFO, HEAD HERE.
