ARTIST: He Danced Ivy
It's a bold move to publicly declare a sonic love child between Rage Against the Machine and Avril Lavigne, but if you're already familiar with stalwart Brissie noisemakers He Danced Ivy, this brazen mishmash will come as no surprise - and their latest prog-party of a single 'Guillotines' makes a smashing case to encourage a future Morello/Avril collab.
Already esteemed for their twisted tunes and lovable ferocity, He Danced Ivy have steadily honed their grungy punk prog tendencies alongside an eye-watering line-up, including recent stints alongside Circa Survive, Protest The Hero and Dead Letter Circus.
But in between shows, the quartet have also conjured their latest progeny 'Guillotines', a brash and flashy rager that dabbles into At The Drive In-chic with some searing Incubus vibes. The result is a complex and occasionally challenging journey, best summed up by the band themselves:
"Guillotines is kind of our Frankenstein's Monster track. It naturally fell together with mits and pieces of riffs and ideas that we had lying around," bassist, Mitch Hart.
"And we slapped a big o'l Avril Lavigne chorus in the middle," vocalist, David Cheney.
Here's hoping there's more blazing tunes to come from the He Danced Ivy lads in the near future - but in the meantime, just call us Marie Antoinette and pass the cake while we hit the repeat button on 'Guillotines'. Check out the track and more below.
