NEW SINGLE REVIEW: 'Alone' (HUNTER DAVISON)

August 19, 2019

SINGLE: Alone  // ARTIST: Hunter Davison

Come get moody with the misty new coming-of-age single 'Alone' from Kiwi artist Hunter Davison.

A seventh generation New Zealander raised on his family's farm in Christchurch, Hunter Davison has devoutly explored his ambient sonic wares over the years; from guitar lessons at the age of 10 to now writing, recording and producing tracks in his university dorm room, it was at the ripe old age of 18 that Davison unleashed his first single into the world. And while his inclinations are geared towards emotive and intimate waters, it's with his latest release 'Alone' that Davison truly moulds himself into a sharp contender in the indie pop realm.

Roused by a sudden surge of independence and change, 'Alone' details existential musings on the unique and affecting moment one arrives at when life leaves you hanging between childhood and adulthood. Layered with tranquil vocals, dewy textures and the creamy tones of a Rhodes piano, 'Alone' is ultimately a bittersweet ballad that provokes a dash of self-analysis, while dominantly acting as a bolstered vehicle for Davison's dulct vocals.

Marking his third release in less than 12 months, 'Alone' is a meaningful little moment of indie bliss that'll tickle the fancy of those who like their indie-pop of the Matt Corby, Bon Iver and/or Ben Howard variety. Serene and seemingly simplistic? Sure, but we dare you not to get dazed by this dreamy new tune.
