ARTIST: Signature Series
If slinky, smooth and salacious soul with a 90s hip hop twist is your jam, then chances are you've already heard the new track 'Swingman' from Brissie soul/hip-hop collective Signature Series. If not - bust out your Air Jordans and prepare to burn up your speakers, cos this one's a smokin' hot knockout.
Coming together over a shared lust for the golden-age of hip hop and 70s samples, Signature Series have rapidly made waves with their oozing funk and scintillating live shows - and the recently released 'Swingman' sees this electric 6-piece groove-machine effectively capture and expanded on a very specific moment in time, when the NBA and hip hop reigned supreme; the 1990s, of course.
Boasting extreme levels of old-school vibes and smooth as f*ck tones, it's pretty darn difficult to resist the vintage swagger fueling 'Swingman' - add in some blasting horns, graveled vocoder and sinfully seductive basslines, and you’ve got a killer love letter to 90s hip hop, 70s blaxploitation films, and the iconic NBA jam games that everyone's brother is probably still playing on weekends.
Fittingly summed up by the group themselves, Signature Series are "a shaken martini of Hip Hop, Blues, Classic Soul, Harlem Shuffles and Brooklyn Scuffles' - and if you think that concoction sounds way more bad-ass than James Bond's usual, then you’re absolutely correct. Go check out 'Swingman' below.
