SINGLE REVIEW: Ubu (METHYL ETHEL)

SONG: Ubu ARTIST: Methyl Ethel It’s been a huge week for Australian music following the massive local contingent dominating the Hottest 100. But just before the annual countdown took place, Perth indie darlings ‘Methyl Ethel’ dropped a brand new track ahead of the release of their new album ‘Everything is Forgotten’. With some downright dreamy tones, their latest single ‘Ubu’ is another venture into the modern psychedelic realms seen on earlier offerings (e.g. previous single ‘No. 28’). Like an astronaut tripping across cotton-candy clouds, 'Ubu' is packed full of sprawling synthesizers and crunchy percussion, topped off with frontman Jake Webb’s woozy crystallised vocals. It’s easy to see why this three-piece are sometimes compared to their Perth brethren Tame Impala, but if this new single from Methyl Ethel is any indication of what's to come, we’re in for some infectiously exciting and original things with their new album (due out March 3rd). Take a peek at their deliciously kooky clip for 'Ubu' here.
