EP REVIEW: A Postcard From An Australian Summer (ZIGGY ALBERTS)

EP: A Postcard From An Australian Summer // ARTIST: Ziggy Alberts

If you're like The Soundcheck, you aren't the biggest fan of winter. Well luckily for us, sublime indie sensation Ziggy Alberts has the cure for the winter blues with his brand new live EP 'A Postcard From An Australian Summer' officially dropping today in all its warm and sunny splendour.

Renowned for his love of surfing and the environment, the meteoric rise of Ziggy Alberts from first picking up a guitar in 2011 to selling out his own headline shows in 2017 has stemmed largely from his glowing, honest tunes that recall both the early years of Ben Howard and Jack Johnson - but with his own sparkling twist.

With his fifth full-length 'Laps Around The Sun' unleashing last year at #2 on the ARIA Australian Artist Album Charts and snagging 'Feature Album of the Week' on triple j, Ziggy has since departed on a near sold-out 'Laps Around The Sun World Tour' which will see him travel most corners of the globe well into 2020 (including a cheeky appearance last weekend at the iconic Splendour In The Grass) - but along the way he has found the time to bless his fans with a surprise live EP release 'A Postcard From An Australian Summer' charming its way into the world today.

Combining an intimate collection of live performances, 'A Postcard' captures Ziggy's deep croon and breezy live performances, while capturing some candid moments where Ziggy encourages the crowd to hold up their phone lights ('Yu'), as well as a slightly heavier moment where he touches on his double success in the 2019 triple J Hottest 100, while zeroing in on the startling statistic of suicide in Australia ('Interlude'). Throughout the EP, the crowds emphatically sing along while hanging on to every humbly poignant moment, from the roaming beats of 'Heaven' to the fan-favourites 'Love Me Now' and 'Gone', with the latter penned by Alberts at the tender age of 16.

For most bands, a live EP would fall as a redundant marker between new material, but for the delightfully charismatic Ziggy Alberts, it's a chance to share some of the electrifying moments between Alberts and his adoring fans, and his ability to charm the ears off a packed theatre with nothing more than an acoustic guitar and his honey-soaked vocals.

Whether you're craving a taste of summer or are one of many hanging for a glimpse into the live musical antics of one of our biggest indie exports of late - Ziggy Alberts has got you covered with this beautifully mellow release.

ZIGGY ALBERT'S BRAND NEW EP 'A POSTCARD FROM AN AUSTRALIAN SUMMER' IS OFFICIALLY OUT IN THE WORLD AS OF TODAY WHILE HE CONTINUES TO TRAIPSE THE GLOBE FOR HIS 'LAPS AROUND THE SUN WORLD TOUR'.
