SINGLE + MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERE: Fall Out (JESS CORAM)

GRUNGE GETS A NEW LEASE ON LIFE AS SYDNEY SINGER-SONGWRITER JESS CORAM BRANCHES OUT FROM AN ILLUSTRIOUS PAST INTO SOLO TERRITORY, TODAY UNVEILING HER BEGUILING DEBUT SINGLE AND VIDEO FALL OUT.

In a previous life, the compelling Jess Coram traipsed the country and the globe as the founder of badass punks Bitchslap and as the rhythm guitarist for Sydney dark alt-poppers The Mis-Made, resulting in multiple albums and a stint opening for grunge wave icons L7 in 2016. But after playing in bands for nearly 18 years, Coram reached a professional crossroads that inevitably resulted in a plunge into solo waters - and ultimately with her debut single Fall Out premiering today.

Combining lashings of vamping riffs, splashy percussion and Coram's own dark and stormy vocals, Fall Out is a hazy delight that draws on the disaffected, primal tones of 90s-era grunge with a sliver of modern sass. And while technically coming to life quite easily, the thematics bubbling beneath Fall Out cut deep into the relationship trope, as Coram herself explains:

"The song was written some time ago, but it was one of those times when the song really did just "fall out" - yet the song isn't about that! The song was built around some personal stuff I was going through with relationships, and how I feel about the fears and walls we have up when going into a new relationship - and the strength behind working through not only your own, but the demons of another person, so you can work each other out and grow."

Jumping out as the first track from Coram's forthcoming debut EP Alien, Fall Out shows Coram at her most "pop" with her solo material - but don't let the pop moniker fool you, as this swaggering little ditty will scratch up your furniture and whiplash your ears when you're not looking - much like the whiplash Coram experienced filming the accompanying clip, concocting the entire clip against a green screen and letting the visual effects do the talking amid Coram's pastel purple locks.

With a whole lot more material on the way, Jess Coram arrives in a solo capacity as a total breath of fresh, grunged-up air in an age of overly manufactured acts and cookie cutter tunes. Whether you're a fan of the good old days of down and dirty grunge or just fancy a cathartic turn to get you through the week - go get your ears around Jess Coram's debut single premiering right now on The Soundcheck!
