Forming in Brisbane back in 2013, the Street Pieces machine whirred to life teaming up with ARIA hatted producer Magoo (Regurgitator) on the debut EP The Otherside, supporting Wolfmother a year later before embracing some significant moves into heavier waters with each following batch of new material. And it’s this slow-roasted evolution that has come to fiery fruition with the quartet’s latest endeavour in the form of new single One For The Road.
Hulking out with snarling licks that’d fit right at home in one of Muse’s heavier tunes, One For The Road pairs potent energy with conscious grit as the true Street Pieces live force blends with polished grooves and swaggering fuzz. Part burly rock stomper, part groove-train skidding into a slice of 70s metal, there’s an undeniable stamp of where Street Pieces are at in their current form – and it’s a tasty place, indeed.
Fittingly telling the story of a party that turns into a riot, One For The Road brings a grunt to the soul, with the Street Pieces gents teaming up with the dream team of ARIA award-winning producer Govinda Doyle (Dead Letter Circus, Angus and Julia Stone) on recording and mixing duties and mastering by King Willy (Gotye, Eskimo Joe, The Triffids), with the end result bringing significant levels of lively, coarse force:
“We wanted to record as live as possible, so we had amps in cabinets and things like that to make sure we could have everyone playing together and capture that live energy. Govinda’s drum room is an old water tank with stone walls which creates a great vibe and sound.” - Ben Tilney, vocalist
Also to come is a horror-themed music vid (the brain-child of Terry Phelan), with the ruckus getting notched up to unholy levels, perfectly accompanying the riotous tones belting out along the way.
