Embracing the ongoing challenges and restrictions of life in pandemic, Brisbane quartet Stonehaven were in fact mid-air flying to Melbourne to record fresh material when news of Victoria's first impending lockdown first broke. But rather than fly the white flag as the music industry crumbled around them, Stonehaven regrouped, moved to the southside of Brisbane, built a soundproof studio in their garage and self-recorded and produced new music, also bringing on Callan Orr of Avalance Studios for remote mixing duties. And while the lead-up to their debut single release may not have panned out exactly as planned, the end result is one of exuberant alt rock in the form of the band's maiden track The Colours Inside My Mind.
Inspired by the expansive melodics of bands like Balance and Composure, Bring Me The Horizon and Don Broco, The Colours Inside My Mind embraces thunderous percussion, fuzzy riffs and a sleek coating of serene ambience, balancing the cleaner guitar tones and upbeat thematics lying at the core of this ode to positivity.
