Conjuring soundalikes for Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Two Door Cinema and vintage Brits Prefab Sprout, Melbourne-via-UK trio The Great Emu War Casualties have firmly embraced their roots with their jaunty nouveau tinted by English indie rock and new wave zest, seen most recently with their poppin' tune Gimme Gimme Shimmy Shimmy.
Coming to life in 2017 in the UK, The Great Emu War Casualties lot have hit the ground running since arriving in Australia, headlining the Oxford Arts Factory and The Factory Theatre in Sydney, while also snagging residencies in Melbourne and unveiling new tunes along the way. And after recently dropping their latest sonic endeavour with Gimme Gimme Shimmy Shimmy earlier this month (featuring guest vocals courtesy of Alex Jones of INFOWARS), the trio are following up with some video eye candy that plays up the track's colourful nuances while also flinging a sharp warning to the digitally obsessed, as guitarist and vocalist Joe Jackson explains:
"The video is really cool! I love that it’s filmed in the UK because it means I can watch it and think of home but then also there’s weird carousels and a big model train ride and a weird medieval festival and a swam pedalo so the more I watch it and think of home the more that big rideable swans make me think of Liverpool. Director Milo Hutchins filmed this over 2 days in Hastings, south of the UK, and we allowed him to interpret the song however he liked for the video. The first thing he did was put some long-haired dude in a bright blue suit, give him an iPhone then walk him through a fish market, so I think he had the right idea. The quick cuts in the video introduce this weird artificial urgency to these completely mundane situations. I think that’s great."
