Today ending the rabid speculation that they were cooking up something huge for us Aussies, legendary grunge lords Pearl Jam have today gifted us not only with a brand new single, Dark Matter, and the confirmation of a new album out this April; the band will also be returning to our shores this November, a whopping 10 years since their last visit.
Where oh where to begin? Firstly, the new tune Dark Matter is, as its name suggest, a dark affair, with some cascading drumwork, driving guitars and the ever-sturdy stylings of frontman Eddie Vedder.
The band's first sign of new material since 2020 and their 11th full-length Gigaton, Dark Matter also marks a peek into the band's upcoming new album of the same name. And with the earworm qualities and swaggering melodics permeating around some welcome raw vibes, Dark Matter the single hints at some pretty epic things to come later this year.
But wait, that's still not all! The thinly-veiled hints that have been dropping of late on Pearl Jam's social media finally came to fruition today, with the band confirming that not only would they be heading back to Australia this November, with the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney locked and loaded for some incredible evenings; they will also be bringing rock legends Pixies along for the ride, as if the news wasn't stacked enough.
It's been a hot minute since Pearl Jam have been in Australia, with their last appearance a decade ago headlining the last ever (RIP) Big Day Out run back in 2014. Hold onto your hats and potentially your wallets, 2024 is shaping up to be a barn-burner.
